To avoid stretching of the grain texture which is inevitable during normal vacuum moulding, the negative vacuum moulding process offers an alternative solution by using porous nickel tools with surface textures. These grant an optimum reproduction of the textures. Starting from a wrapping model which can bear a quilting seam or different grain textures, and following
the appropriate model-making steps, a 3-6mm thick porous nickel shell is produced using a patented process. This nickel shell is then finished to a production tool suitable for heating and vacuum moulding.

The number of micro-pores created in the “Technical Porous Nickel” (TPN),with a diameter of 0.15 - 0.2 mm, can be varied and adapted to the geometry of the component required.

IMG tools are used for the processing of untextured TPO, PVC and other foils, for instance for the manufacture of door panels, glove box lids and instrument panels. Doubling or foam backing can very often be done in one working cycle and helps to reduce costs.
